1. Health Guarantee Terms
We provide a two-year health guarantee on the health of your Newfoundland puppy, covering congenital defects that may affect the puppy’s well-being. The guarantee is valid from the date of adoption and applies to the following conditions:
- Hip Dysplasia: If your puppy is diagnosed with hip dysplasia within the first two years of life, we will cover the cost of treatment or offer a replacement puppy.
- Elbow Dysplasia: If diagnosed within the first two years, we will provide a replacement puppy or cover the cost of surgery (to be determined by a veterinarian).
- Heart Conditions: If your puppy is diagnosed with a serious congenital heart defect (excluding minor murmurs), we will cover the cost of treatment or provide a replacement puppy.
- Cystinuria: This is a hereditary condition in some Newfoundlands. If your puppy is diagnosed with cystinuria within the first two years, we will cover the cost of treatment or provide a replacement.
Note: Any of the above conditions must be diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian.
2. Responsibilities of the Buyer
To ensure the continued health of your puppy and the validity of this Health Guarantee, the buyer agrees to the following:
- Veterinary Care: The puppy must be taken to a licensed veterinarian for a health check within 3 days of adoption. A copy of the health exam should be provided to us upon request.
- Vaccinations & Preventative Care: The puppy must receive all appropriate vaccinations and preventative treatments, including flea and tick control, heartworm medication, and annual vet checkups.
- Proper Diet and Exercise: The puppy must be fed a high-quality diet suitable for their size and age. Newfoundlands are large dogs and must be provided with an appropriate exercise plan that does not strain their joints.
- No Neglect or Abuse: The puppy must be kept in a loving, safe, and healthy environment. If any signs of neglect or abuse are observed, this health guarantee may be voided.
3. Terms for Replacement or Refund
If your puppy develops a covered health condition (as listed above) within the first two years of life, you are entitled to either a replacement puppy or a refund, depending on the situation:
- Replacement Puppy: A replacement puppy will be provided, free of charge, when the original puppy is returned to Gentle Giants Newfoundland. The replacement puppy will be of similar age and breed, though there may be a waiting list depending on availability.
- Refund: If a replacement puppy is not available, we will provide a refund for the purchase price of the puppy (excluding any shipping or related fees). The puppy must be returned to us within 30 days of diagnosis.
In all cases, a licensed veterinarian must confirm the diagnosis of the health issue and provide relevant medical documentation.
4. Exclusions to the Health Guarantee
This Health Guarantee does not cover the following:
- Accidental Injuries: Any injury resulting from accidents, trauma, or poor treatment after the puppy has been placed in your home is not covered.
- Normal Wear and Tear: As the dog ages, normal wear on joints, teeth, or other body parts is not covered under this guarantee.
- Viral or Bacterial Infections: Common infections such as kennel cough, canine parvovirus, or distemper that are contracted after the puppy leaves the breeder’s home are not covered under this guarantee.
- Behavioral Issues: This Health Guarantee covers only physical health issues and does not cover behavioral problems or training concerns.
5. Required Documentation
To process a claim under this Health Guarantee, the following documentation is required:
- A copy of the health examination report within 3 days of adoption.
- Veterinary diagnosis for any conditions that fall under the guarantee (must be provided by a licensed veterinarian).
- If requesting a replacement, the puppy must be returned to the breeder at the buyer’s expense (within 30 days of diagnosis).
6. Transferability
This Health Guarantee is non-transferable. It applies only to the original buyer and is not valid if the puppy is sold, given away, or otherwise transferred to another person.
7. Limitation of Liability
Our liability is limited to the original purchase price of the puppy. We are not responsible for any indirect costs associated with medical care, transportation, or any other expenses incurred.
8. Acknowledgment of Terms
By signing the Health Guarantee agreement, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the terms and conditions outlined above.
